Ok, tumblrers. I need your help. No money involved just a couple minutes of your time.

I live in the middle of nowhere, in literally one of the poorest counties in NC. There is NOTHING here for kids. Most, if and when they make it through high school, leave. because there seriously is no work and little opportunity.

A friend of mine, newly graduated from college and headed to law school, decided to help this community that raised him and is trying to open a non profit youth center here in town. I am on the board helping him get this established and taking care of things while he is in school

Our goal is to create a positive and safe environment for the kids to hang out, play, study, and dream through education, recreation, and community service. Any child active in this youth center must also pay it forward with some sort of community service.

Anyhow, we are up for a $50,000 grant through the Pepsi Refresh Project. Believe it or not, our tiny little project is ranked 31st in the nation! If we are in one of the top ten spots at the end of the month, we will win the grant money.

The money does not go to the Board or the Founder. We are all just volunteers. We have a building that is in need of work…lots of it. Electrical, plumbing, HVAC you name it. We also plan on using the money to buy computers, internet access, arcade games, textbooks, study aids, concrete for the basketball court, rehab the pool, and pay the water and electrical bills, etc. etc.
